WE DID IT!! Almost!
Day 1. Ben Macdui and Cairngorm, a total of 24km completed in reasonable weather in 8.5 hours. We placed a commemorative stone chosen by the Mpanza children of Fugitives Drift on the summit of Ben Macdui ( the waters from which flow into the River Spey, David’s favourite salmon river)
Day 2. Braeriach summit was reached in 5 hours of climbing in appalling weather conditions. Our Mountain Ranger Guide deemed it to dangerous to continue, “no argument” so sadly we had to retreat back down, 29km covered in 9 hours. A really hard day!
Day 3. Cairn Mor Dearg and Ben Nevis. 26km in 9 hours - a very, very hard day. The climb was very steep to the summit of CMD and over the arête on the North Face of Nevis and most of the climb was in driving rain and high winds.
Day 4. Aonach Mor and Aonach Beag, 12km in 5 hours. Rain, dense low cloud and strong winds with nil visibility made this climb very exciting; thank goodness for a map and compass and a brilliant mountain guide, we could see nothing.
The whole experience was truly memorable, made possible with the back up of Sue, and two amazing mountain guides Rex Sircus and Rosie Goolden who helped us both through some appalling weather to achieve what we did.
We have almost reached our target figure of £10, 000, but there is still time to support our efforts. The fund remains open until September 30th 2008.
